Trip to Waterton

So we decided to take a labour day weekend trip to Waterton, leaving Friday and coming back Saturday or Sunday. Everyone was able to come (Kelly, Diane, Jordan, Spencer, Matthew, Amanda, and Alison) as well as my "friend" Cherisa :). Jenny obviously couldn't come because she started teaching school already in Utah. My family left around 3 on Friday and Cherisa and I left after work around 7. Friday night was a classic Smith family vs local hotel. My parents stayed in a room at waterton lakes lodge and the rest of us (boys in one room, girls in the other) stayed at a different..."less expensive" place - but only because they were the only rooms available in the entire town.

After a late night of watching Seinfeld and making noise we woke up Saturday and set out to tackle bears hump. At the top Spencer ventured out to the outer most cliff to get a picture. Matthew hurt his foot after jumping from one rock to another and Spencer scraped up his leg after he jumped off a step on the hike down, fibbled the landing, and rolled part way down the rocky dirt path. But everyone is okay!

For lunch we went to a spot by Waterton lake and ate sandwiches. My dad (probably assuming no one would dare) offered $5 to anyone would would jump in the FREEZING COLD (let me emphasize that) glacier fed lake. After pumping ourselves up Matthew and I climbed on a rock and dove in. Spencer promptly waded out and joined us. Spencer and I decided it would be a good idea to swim back to the shore. We both felt our legs and arms start to go numb to the point that we almost couldn't feel them, but it was worth it, haha.

After we thawed out we rented these little dirt bikes and zipped around the town. Although the speedometer maxes out at 60 km/hr Spencer and Matthew claim to have gone 80 down a hill, and may or may not have "caught air" off a hill or two.

We played some games, got some ice cream and relaxed for the rest of the day. Cherisa and I left Saturday night and the rest of my family left Sunday after church.
